How to tell if someone's flirting?

I've always been kind of a thick guy when it came to subtleties in speech. How does one tell when a girl is flirting with you? I have been told numerous times that I missed a flirting opportunity but have no idea how to spot one. I am 15 if this helps. Being as descriptive as possible would be helpful, perhaps an example of a flirting situation.
